Karnataka News Highlights: Amid fresh Covid-19 concerns in different parts of the country, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday indicated that precautionary and surveillance measures may be reintroduces at airports and border districts of the state, depending on the Centre’s advisory, PTI reported. He appealed to people to follow precautionary measures like wearing masks and maintaining social distance to control the spread of virus.
The state government had on Monday issued guidelines making wearing of face-masks and maintaining social distancing compulsory. The decision was taken at a meeting headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai with senior ministers, officials and the Covid-19 technical advisory committee (TAC) consisting of experts here, to review the situation in the State amid concerns over a possible fourth wave.
In another news, Karnataka police have arrested Sowmya R (32) in connection with malpractice in the examination held to recruit assistant professors. Her arrest comes after Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) executive director S Ramya had filed a complaint. It was been revealed that Sowmya had received 18 questions in the form of images on WhatsApp and those questions were asked in the exam also. The investigating officials are now probing if the questions were shared with others.
A unique type of rock-cut cave from the Megalithic period (800 BC to 500 BC) has been found at a government cashew plantation in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district.
A team led by T Murugeshi, associate professor and head of the department of history and archaeology, MSRS College at Shirva in Udupi district made the discovery at the plantation located in Aturu-Kundaje near Ramakunja of Kadaba taluk, a release here said.
This is probably the first rock engraving dating back to the Megalithic period found in Dakshina Kannada district, Murugeshi said in the release.
Megalithic culture was dominant in south India and known for its intricate burial patterns. (PTI)
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has sought a report from the district administration after a Hindu right-wing organisation alleged that students irrespective of their religion were asked to carry the Bible to a school in Bengaluru.
The state spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Mohan Gowda, said the Clarence High School has taken an undertaking from parents that they would not object to students carrying the Bible to school. Read More

Amid fresh COVID-19 concerns in different parts of the country and apprehensions of a possible fourth wave of the pandemic, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday indicated that precautionary and surveillance measures may be reintroduces at airports and border districts of the state, depending on the Centre’s advisory.
He appealed to people to follow precautionary measures like wearing masks and maintaining social distance to control the spread of virus.
“Everyone has to follow the precautionary measures, there is no need for worry as hospitalisations have not increased, but still we have taken certain precautionary measures,” Bommai told reporters here. (PTI)
Experts have predicted that the COVID-19 fourth wave may peak after June and have its effects till October, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday as he stressed on learning to live with the virus by taking precautionary measures like vaccination and wearing masks.
He said the prevalent variants of the virus is said to be Omicron’s sublineages and an official report in this regard is likely in a couple of days.
“IIT Kanpur has been sharing data and reports, according to a report shared by them it (fourth wave) is likely to start from June end, but things have started a month ahead. According to them it is likely to peak after June and may go one till September and October,” Sudhakar said. (PTI)
Senior BJP leader and Karnataka MLC A H Vishwanath has hit out at Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik for raking up communally sensitive issues in the state and has reminded him that the government does not belong to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) or the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).
In a press conference in Mysuru on Monday, Vishwanath said, “Who is Muthalik to dictate terms to the government and issue communally sensitive statements? It is a tragedy that the state government is not able to take action against such people. The government does not belong to the RSS or the VHP.” He added that the “government’s inaction will send wrong signals to the people.” Read more

Karnataka police arrested one person named Sunil Kumar in connection with Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) examination fraud on Tuesday. The police said that Sunil was one of the candidate who attended the exam in Gyan Jyothi institution.
“His arrest was made after we discovered he was in contact with Rudragouda Patil, suspected to be agent in the scam,”police said.
Bengaluru (BLR) Airport has rounded up FY 2022 with record growth in cargo volumes and passenger traffic, which went up by 49.2 per cent, along with a 50 per cent recovery as compared to FY 2020.
Top International markets for cargo are the United States, United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, according to Bengaluru airport. ‘Perishable cargo has been one of the major growth drivers for BLR Airport. It is the No.1 airport in the country for handling perishables — estimated to account for 31 per cent of India’s total perishable shipments,’ Bangalore International Airport Limited said.

The Chandra Layout police on Monday arrested two persons and recovered 81.5 kg of marijuana which was smuggled in vegetable loads from Andhra Pradesh.
The arrested are Eeneshwar, 25, and Nadeem, 25. They smuggled Marijuana in vegetable-goods vehicles from Andhra Pradesh and were delivering it in city to other peddlers.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the irregularities in the recruitment of police sub-inspectors (PSIs) has summoned Congress MLA Priyank Kharge to appear before it with evidence, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said on Monday.
However, the state unit of the Congress has directed Kharge against appearing for the examination.
On Saturday, Kharge released an audio clip in which two persons were reportedly discussing getting a PSI job by paying money. A day after the incident, Kharge received a notice from the CID to appear before the investigating team and share the details he had. (Read More)
With an uptick in daily Covid cases in the national capital, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and a slight increase in Karnataka, the chief secretary P Ravi Kumar Monday through an order made the wearing of face masks in all public places compulsory.
“The wearing of face covering/ masks by the public in work places and during transport. Similarly spitting in public places will be punishable with fine, as may be prescribed in accordance with its laws, rules or regulations by the local authorities. Further, individuals must maintain social distancing – a minimum distance of 2 feet – in public places,” the order read.
As a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Covid cases and the health minister Dr K Sudhakar had earlier said that masking has been made mandatory in public areas though there will be no levying of fines for violation. The minister suggested that congregations and gatherings should be avoided. The state recorded 60 new cases of Covid on Sunday.

Set up at Rs 3.5 crore, the chamber is an airtight room which is pressurised with pure oxygen to treat certain infections and conditions such as carbon monoxide poisoning, gangrene, and stubborn wounds.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) subjects patients to higher pressures (up to 3 times the normal atmospheric pressure at sea level). A doctor working with Victoria Hospital stated that it decreases edema (swelling) as it stimulates better circulation. “The fluids built up inside the body can move through the body to be filtered and eliminated. When tissue becomes hyper-oxygenated through the HBOT treatment, it becomes saturated with the oxygen known to stimulate healing,” he said. (Read More)
As the Bengaluru Tech Summit is approaching its Silver Jubilee Year, the State government has decided to raise the flagship tech event this year to the international level, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.
Speaking to media persons after participating in the curtain-raiser for ‘Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022’, Bommai said, “I had an interaction with entrepreneurs of various sectors as part of the preparations for the Bengaluru Tech Summit scheduled to be held in November. I have received many suggestions pertaining to policies conducive to industrial growth, creating an ideal ecosystem and technological aspects. They will be implemented.”
New Dimension to the technology sector
“Bengaluru Tech Summit will give a new dimension to the technology sector. Today’s meeting is very successful. The government will give a boost to various industrial sectors in the coming days. State government is keen to develop Bengaluru as the number one Silicon City in the world. Action is being taken to improve the infrastructure in the outskirts of Bengaluru as well,” Bommai said.
A total of 28,122 students who were supposed to appear for the 2nd PU examination remained absent on Monday. The Karnataka PU board on Monday conducted an economics examination where 20,147 freshers, 5,956 private and 2,019 repeaters remained absent. A total of 3,65,839 students had registered for the examination and a total of 4,49,432 students had registered for the economics examination.
